How to Add a Video to a Zillow Listing (2026 Walkthrough)

For a for-sale home, you do not upload the video to Zillow directly. Zillow builds those listings from your MLS feed, so the video goes into the MLS and syndicates across. Zillow Rentals is the exception and takes a direct upload. In both cases the video usually has to be unbranded.

Need the video first? A listing video maker builds one from the listing photos.

This trips up almost everyone the first time, because the obvious assumption is that a Zillow listing is edited on Zillow. For rentals it is. For a home you have listed for sale, Zillow is downstream of your MLS: the photos, the description and the media all arrive through a feed, and anything you want on the listing has to enter through that feed. Trying to attach a video on Zillow's side and finding no field for it is not you missing a button.

Which route applies to your listing

  • For sale, listed through an MLS: add the video in your MLS, and it syndicates to Zillow with the rest of the listing.
  • For rent, on Zillow Rentals: upload directly in the Zillow Rental Manager media section.
  • For sale by owner posted straight to Zillow: you are creating the listing on Zillow itself, so media is added there.

The distinction matters because it decides which rulebook applies. A video going through your MLS has to satisfy that MLS's media policy, which in nearly every case means no branding of any kind. A video you upload straight to Zillow Rentals answers only to Zillow's own content rules, which are looser about your name and logo appearing.

Route one: through your MLS, for a home you are selling

Every MLS handles this slightly differently, but the shape is the same across almost all of them. In the listing edit screen there is a media or multimedia section, separate from photos, with fields for a virtual tour link and often a branded and an unbranded slot. The unbranded slot is the one that syndicates to public portals.

  1. 1Export the video as an MP4, 1080p, with no logo, no name, no phone number and no call to action.
  2. 2Host it somewhere with a clean, public URL. YouTube unlisted, Vimeo and most virtual tour hosts all work.
  3. 3Open the listing in your MLS and find the media, multimedia or virtual tour section.
  4. 4Paste the link into the UNBRANDED field. If your MLS offers both, fill the branded one with your own version separately.
  5. 5Save, then wait for the next syndication cycle. Most MLSs push to Zillow within a few hours, some overnight.

The mistake that costs a day

Pasting your branded video into the unbranded field is the single most common rejection. Many MLSs review media manually and will pull the listing's video without telling you why, and you find out when a buyer asks where the tour went.

Route two: Zillow Rentals, where you upload directly

Rental listings live on Zillow itself rather than arriving through a feed, so the video is uploaded in Zillow Rental Manager alongside the photos. This is the only path where you are genuinely adding a file to Zillow rather than pointing at one hosted elsewhere, and it is also the path where your branding is generally allowed, because no MLS policy is involved.

Zillow publishes its current accepted file types, size ceilings and length limits in its own help centre, and those numbers change more often than any article can track. Export a standard 1080p MP4 and check their page before you upload if the file is unusually long or large.

What unbranded actually means

Unbranded is stricter than most agents expect, and it is not only about your logo. In practice, a compliant cut has no agent name, no brokerage name or mark, no phone number, no email, no website, no QR code, no call to action such as call me for a viewing, and no sign visible in a shot that carries your branding. Some boards also count a distinctive intro sting as branding if it identifies your business.

This is why producing two versions of the same video matters. One branded cut for your own social channels, where your name is the point, and one clean cut for the MLS. Doing that by hand means a second export and a second upload every time. PropReel produces both from a single horizontal render, along with an email GIF, so the MLS-clean version exists before you need it. The rules that decide what counts as branded are covered in MLS and Zillow video requirements.

Can PropReel pull my Zillow listing automatically?

No, and neither can most tools that claim to. Zillow and Realtor.com both block automated access to listing pages, so any product promising a one click Zillow import is either using a route those portals will eventually close or is describing something narrower than it sounds. PropReel imports photos from a listing URL where the site permits it, and where it does not, you download the photos and upload them, which costs a couple of minutes.

That is worth knowing before you buy anything in this category, because the claim appears on a lot of pricing pages. Ask specifically whether the import works on Zillow today, and ask for a demonstration on a live listing rather than a screenshot.

How long should the video be for Zillow?

For a listing page, somewhere between forty five seconds and three minutes works. A buyer who has already clicked into the listing has raised their hand, so they will watch longer than someone scrolling a feed, but attention still falls off past the three minute mark for a typical home. The full breakdown by platform is in how long a real estate video should be.

One video, several homes

The version you put on the listing is not the version that belongs on Instagram. The listing cut can run two minutes and stay horizontal. The social cut needs to be vertical, under forty seconds, and open on your strongest room. Export both from the same footage rather than trying to make one file do both jobs.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a video to a Zillow listing?

For a home listed for sale, add the video to your MLS in the unbranded media or virtual tour field and it syndicates to Zillow automatically. For a rental, upload it directly in Zillow Rental Manager. Zillow does not offer a video upload field on for-sale listings because that media arrives through the MLS feed.

Does Zillow allow branded videos on a listing?

On rental listings you upload directly and your branding is generally allowed. On for-sale listings the video arrives through your MLS, and nearly every MLS requires the syndicated version to be unbranded: no name, logo, phone number, website or call to action. Keep a branded cut for your own channels.

Why is my video not showing on Zillow?

The three usual causes are that it went into the branded field rather than the unbranded one, that the hosting link is private or region blocked, or that the syndication cycle has not run yet. Most MLSs push to Zillow within a few hours. If a day passes, check the media field and the link in an incognito window.

Can I put a YouTube link in as my Zillow listing video?

Usually yes. Most MLSs accept a public or unlisted YouTube or Vimeo URL in the virtual tour field, and that is what syndicates. The important part is that the video at the end of the link is unbranded, because the MLS rule applies to the content, not just to the field you pasted it into.

How many photos do I need to make a listing video?

Eight to fifteen good photos make a strong tour. Fewer than six tends to feel thin and more than twenty five starts to drag. The spread matters more than the count: a hero exterior, the main living space, the kitchen, the primary bedroom, a bathroom and any standout feature.
